I tried a Fad Diet. AND IT WORKED.


I write this letter in desperation & from the heart
I did a CRAZY fad diet from the internet. AND IT WORKED.

A glance at my bookshelf or my medicine cupboard filled with half full “diet pills” will tell you I’ve tried it all. From the south beach diet to weight watchers to Zi Xiu Tang (yes i still have a bottle of that sh*t sitting in my cupboard) to Atkins to Shakeology with workouts to shakes without workouts, to the military diet to SO MANY OTHERS. Here’s the thing. They worked for the time being. The time i wanted to lose that last 10 pounds, the time post baby when i needed to lose 60, 70, 80 pounds, the time i wanted to tone up for the beach vacation, the time of self hate when i couldn’t look in the mirror. They worked. For the time being.

THE DOWNFALL?

I always went back. Went back to the out of control eating. Went back to the late night carb binge and the 6 am regrets on the scale. I ALWAYS WENT BACK.

I went back to the sedentary lifestyle with the desk job and lunches in front of the computer or dinner in front of the tv with those late night “drink a few beers to help me sleep”. Little did I know a CRAZY FAD DIET from the internet would help me change not only my body, not only my weight, but my mental clarity on how I view life and how my self love would help me make conscious decisions about what I put into my body. My TEMPLE. We only get one guys. We only get one. Take care of it. Feed it good things and it will reward you.

It all came to a head when I tried on that bathing suit in the harsh lighting of a TJ Maxx dressing room. Summer was ending and I needed that bathing suit for it’s incredible price. My thought? I’ll look good in this NEXT summer. I HAD to do something different that winter. I HAD TO. Yes, vanity was spurring me into action, but I’d long felt a nagging worry that I was on an irreversible creep towards being overweight once again.

Still. I didn’t think a FAD DIET was the way to go. Certainly not one I had learned about on the internet, like the keto diet. But honestly, the more I researched, the more it JUST MADE SENSE.

I started last October with a round of Xtreme Skinny Drops (because those too, get your body into that state of Ketosis with a promising 10-25 pound weight loss in 21 days). I had done rounds before but I never followed through on the phase 3. I just went back to old ways.

Well, let me tell you. I not only followed through with phase 3, I KILLED IT, and kept going. As I embark on almost a full year of the keto way of eating, I’m jumping into yet another round of Xtreme Skinny Drops and taking one for the team. I got a little lazy this past WEEK because of my birthday and I not only feel sluggish and miserable, it’s opened my eyes up to something. Something bigger. This ACTUALLY FREAKING WORKED FOR A WHOLE YEAR. The changes I made within my diet have kept me at a +/- 2 pounds weight stabilization FOR A WHOLE YEAR. I’ve NEVER been able to maintain weight like this. Believe me when i say that I was the girl who gained 8-12 pounds during her period week. I’m not lying. It was a hell of a rollercoaster each month to lose that same damn 8-12 pounds only to turn around and have that TOM come back and squash any progress I did make.

There’s a trick to this crazy little FAD DIET.

The diet is based on a protocol established by Dr. A.T.W Simeons, a British physician working at hospital in Rome, in the 1950’s. He had discovered, accidentally, that patients who were treated with a hormone would lose their appetite and burn fat (changing their figure before their eyes) even if they didn’t lose weight on the scale. It piqued his interest and he began treating obese patients with hcg. Over the years, through trial and error, he came up with a 3 week protocol followed by 3 weeks of stabilization: higher calories but still no sugar or starch.

Here’s the thing, although it’s a strict diet plan with very little food on that protocol list, it works. My breakfast consisted of an apple and 2 hard boiled eggs. Lunch was a lean protein and a vegetable, strawberries or oranges for snacks, then dinner was more lean protein and a veggie. This doesn’t sound like a lot but let me just tell you that 4 oz of spinach in one sitting fills up a very large mixing bowl.

It’s about the food choices you make. For the next 3 weeks I increased those calories back to 1500-1800 calories a day. I added fat. I followed Keto to a T, making crazy fat bombs and ooey-gooey keto chocolate chip cream bars. I stuck through Thanksgiving and Christmas. I didn’t need those holiday drinks with the family to get through it. I lost 12 pounds that round of drops last October and I’ve kept it off since then.

That’s the obvious question. Does the weight stay off? More and more research is being done surrounding the keto way of eating, and guys, you can make this a lifestyle, enjoy the foods you love, and keep that trattorias weight off. IF YOU WANT TO. I’m not going to lie. There were days where it was discouraging. There were hard days. There were days I “cheated”. But, the obvious goal at the end, never go back to eating unhealthy ON A REGULAR BASIS or it’s going to come back. Make it a lifestyle change.

This past July I put myself through a strenuous test. A test of vacation margaritas and ice cream and chips with guac. I gained a few pounds. But, upon returning from vacation, I stuck to proteins, fat bombs, water, and my now “regular” way of eating. And guess what? Those extra pounds fell off in 3 days flat. The point being: once you get your body so adapted to burning fat, you can have your splurges, but YOU CAN get back to where you were!

Once you regain that self confidence, that self destructive behavior I once knew of had disappeared. It might been a moment of emotional weakness that I decided to do something mildly crazy to lose weight. But I’ve never felt so sane!
